Q&A with Taara from Sex Uninterrupted
Taara from Sex Uninterrupted is a force of nature. From her own experiences with sexual repression, hitting an emotional rock bottom and finding out who she truly was, she birthed not one, but TWO amazing sex-positive, non-monogamy based companies. Along with her partner James, they run Sex Uninterrupted where they help couples navigate through non-monogamous relationships. And she is also the creator of Spiritual Slut which in an online course to help people tap into their sexual soul through guided meditation, astrology, moon rituals and conscious practices in self-love, self-acceptance and healthy communication.
Taara & James have been panelists at Naughty in N'awlins and always assist our newcomers in making them feel safe and right at home with the lifestyle people. We asked Taara a few questions about being in the lifestyle and like always, she had some wise words.
Naughty: What's the most important part about communicating with your partner(s)? Any tips?
Taara: Holding space is crucial when establishing open, honest communication with each other. It provides your relationship with trust so that you can discuss your feelings openly without fear, judgement or anxiety. Holding space means that you practice empathy and compassion and release any judgement or need to control or fix the situation or conversation. It requires you to be present in that moment with each other and can open the door towards constructive conversations in your relationship.
Naughty: What advice would you give someone new to the lifestyle?
Taara: Take your time and ensure that you have a strong foundation within your partnership. It isn't a race and you will have plenty of opportunities to play and explore.
Naughty: What is a common misconception about the lifestyle that you wish to debunk?
Taara: That it is all about sex! Many people are in the Lifestyle because they they are looking for something different than the cultural norm when it comes to sex, dating and relationships. Some people are there simply to be surrounded by open-minded, non-judgmental people. Others love to dress up sexy. Some are exhibitionist and want to put on a show. Sex really is just a bonus!
Naughty: Tell us about a great experience you had at Naughty in N'awlins.
Taara: As much as I love everyone coming together and celebrating sexuality during the Sexual Freedom Parade I do have a very particular memory from our first NiN in 2018. Angie and Jay took us there and I had a fabulous time dancing topless! It was so liberating and freeing and is one of my favorite memories of all time!
Naughty: What is your favorite panel at Naughty in N'awlins that you've given and why?
Taara: Personally I love the newbie/first timer one. I have a soft spot for making those who are new to the Lifestyle/event/club as comfortable and knowledgeable as possible. When you feel comfortable, safe and secure you set yourself up for a better time, so if I can have any part in assisting with that - I'm there!
