Requesting Military People to help study Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM)
Naughty N'awlins is participating in the following study on ENM in the military. We will have private study groups daily, and the information gathered will remain anonymous. If you served or are currently serving in the military, please read below and help us gather information that may result in positive changes in military policy.
Please read below for more information:
The United States military has a long history of maintaining a force that comports with expectations of sexual monogamy and marriage in keeping with general societal standards and in the name of good order and discipline; the policies that maintain this sexually normative force are currently found in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. These standards have been challenged over the past decade as individuals and groups with sexual minority identities have demanded and been granted the ability to serve in the open and as themselves; to date, this has been specific to the LGB community.
These changes in policy have been seen as positive steps in allowing the sexual minority community to serve openly, shedding the shame, guilt, and physical and mental health issues that accompany a stigmatized life. However, the ethically non-monogamous (ENM) community, a sexual minority community that is largely invisible to society, has not been considered for the same rights, and those ENM individuals currently serving in a self-concealed capacity continue to experience the same guilt, shame, and physiological and psychological concerns LGBTQ+ community members once did.
The proposed study will examine the ENM sexual minority community within the U.S. military.
The study is being conducted by James Arrasmith, a doctoral candidate at the California Institute of Integral Studies pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality. His dissertation project involves the ethically non-monogamous community within the United States Armed Forces. If you participated in an ENM lifestyle (swing, open, poly, etc.) while in an active-duty status (including reserves and National Guard on drill weekends, annual training, or deployments), I invite you to participate and anonymously help to identify concerns involving the ENM community by providing your experiences.
If you were at least 18 years of age and participated in ENM while on active duty and are willing to assist, please follow the link below and answer a few questions about your ENM experiences.
