Do Swingers Have Higher STI Rates Than the General Population?

It’s one of the most common questions about lifestyle, so let’s answer it with real data.

I’m the founder of Shameless Care, a telemedicine company created after I got a text from a partner: “You gave me gonorrhea.” I was shocked... I’d just tested negative. But like most people, I’d never been throat swabbed. The infection was oral. No symptoms. No clue.

That experience sparked me to start Shameless Care, a full-service platform with 20+ board-certified doctors offering STI testing, ED meds, DoxyPEP, and a best-selling female Viagra cream. We’ve tested thousands of people, many of whom are in the lifestyle.

Our top positive results?
Oral Gonorrhea, Mycoplasma Genitalium, and Trichomoniasis.

And 80% of our gonorrhea cases are oral infections that would be totally missed without a throat swab.

But here’s the twist:
Our overall positivity rates are lower than national averages.
For example, 5% of young women in the U.S. currently have chlamydia. Our numbers are a tiny fraction of that.

Does that mean swingers are safer? Probably, but with a few caveats:
1. We only test asymptomatic people (mail-in kits take time).
2. Our users may skew higher income; sadly, income matters greatly in STI rates.

Still, based on what we do know, lifestyle folks seem to be getting down—and yet doing so safely!
